By now we have all heard the rumours of the Sylvia / Fedor fight, and like many other fans, I'm left scratching my head.
Why Sylvia? The guy is only 2-2 in his last four fights with wins coming against the less than stellar Jeff Monson and Brandon Vera. Hes gone up against the number three and number two ranked fighters in the division and lost to both. So what makes him think he can beat the arguably best pound for pound fighter in the world? Some don't even rank Sylvia in the top 10 anymore.
There is no doubt in my mind that if this fight goes through, the 28 - 1 Emelianenko will hand Sylvia his second loss in a row.
Perhaps this is the only one for Fedor to fight though. The heavyweight division (especially in the UFC) has been suffering recently. He has already beaten the current UFC champ, Nogueira, twice. His last fight with Hong Man Choi was one sided in the size department, but Fedor's trademark duribility and superior technique made quick work of the Korean giant. This super human Russian cyborg has not lost a fight since 2000, and that one was called because of a cut.
Now an eight year run is very impressive, but Fedor's descision to fight Sylvia instead of Couture (who I realise is in contract disputes) intrigues me. How much longer till Fedor is accused of dodging fights?
Either way, I'm excited to see Fedor fight again. It will be interesting to see how a slumping Sylvia does as well.
